About ten years ago I went on staff at our church as a preschool coach. I loved God, I loved children, and I loved telling children about God, but other than that, I really didn't know what I was doing. At the same time God brought an amazing person in my life, Stephanie Moyer.
At the time I had no idea how much our lives would dovetail and how much I would grow from our friendship. At times we served right along side each other as peers and at other times she was my boss. I was impressed by how seriously she took her job, her ministry, her friendships, and her love for God. Stephanie always gave her best, even when she was exhausted and overwhelmed, she gave her best. We worked together during some challenging times, but we both grew immensely.
Eventually God called Stephanie to work at a preschool. I truly missed her, but I knew that she was following after God and His plan for her life. She always trusted God no matter where He took her. It was planned that she would teach a five year-old bridge class and she was so happy. Sometimes there is a different plan in the works and in this situation there was. It appeared that she and her husband were going to move so she stepped out of that position before the school year started and I was offered the job. Not long after that, plans changed and Stephanie wasn't going to move after all. I felt guilty because I had her job now and wondered what I should do. Stephanie wondered what God's plan was as well, but she trusted Him.
It all turned into a beautiful story. God wanted me to teach the bridge class and God wanted Stephanie to teach the three year-olds. I can't even begin to adequately express the sovereignty of God, nor the gifts that God has blessed Stephanie with, but I am going to try...
Unfortunately, I have never been able to attend Mrs. Moyer's class, but I see the ripple effect of her ministry and life all the way down the hall on a daily basis. Adults have been met with the love, forgiveness, and grace of Christ in her classroom and children have been exposed to the wonder and excitement of God. I have seen faces and hearts transformed through Mrs. Moyer's classroom.
In the tiny little person of Mrs. Moyer, there is a powerhouse! She can share the word of God with more sincerity than just about anyone I know. If she says she is going to pray for you, she will literally be on her knees for you.
The other beautiful part of Stephanie can be represented through Elmo slippers. Mrs. Moyer can make puppets come to life! Seriously, I have a hard time remembering they are not real! The life she gives the puppets makes children feel secure, loved, and at home in her classroom. The puppets share the word of God with her students in a way they can understand. When I look at the Elmo slippers they make me smile the same way Stephanie does. She has the innocence and wonder of a child and yet the wisdom of a saint.
I love you, Stephanie, and I am so grateful for the impact you have made on hundreds of kids, including my granddaughter. Know that you are very, very loved, my friend.
